The device uses Li-Ion battery that can be charged via a solar panel or through a micro usb connector. The charging controller monitor the current as well as the battery temperature to allow for safe operation at all time. Boost dc-dc convertor is used to power the 4 UV led, rated at 3W each. LEDs for charging status and failures are added. The key point of the device is the option for autonomous power supply via the solar panel. This can allow it to used in environments where no other means of power are available, for example in the wild. Another feature can also be implemented at a later stage – a flashlight. This will be very easy since most of the required components are already available. Overall cost of the device is less than $10 making it quite affordable. PCB and circuit diagram and a prototype device are shown below.

Sustainable Development Goals:
Disinfection with UV light contributes to Good Health and Well-being.

UV light can be used for water and air disinfection.

Rechargable lithium-ion battery through a solar panel defines clean energy.

Autonomous power source like solar panels make Life on Land possible.
